Interested in applying to Denver International P.E.A.C.E.? SCG looks for diverse applicants who represent various religious, cultural, racial, ethnic, political, and socio-economic backgrounds. Students with disabilities and those of all sexual orientations and gender identities are encouraged to apply.
Denver International P.E.A.C.E. is open to participants ages 15-17 from the greater Denver-metro area, including Boulder. Participants will be selected on the basis of their commitment to SCG’s mission and to the program, their interest in gaining new communication and peacebuilding skills, and their willingness to meet and engage with students of backgrounds different from their own. Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential and an interest in listening, talking, and interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Participants must be available to complete the local components of the program, including program retreats in January and April. SCG acknowledges the many different styles of learning that participants possess and will try to vary programming to meet this diversity. The program includes group and individual face-to-face discussions on such topics as religion, violence, gender, power, and politics. Since participants come from varied backgrounds, each person must be willing to share her/his views and to listen to other perspectives.

How to Apply
Denver International P.E.A.C.E. (Participant Encounter and Community Engagement) is an international peace education program for Americans; the program trains diverse Colorado high school students to communicate, cooperate, and cohabitate with the ‘other.’ The program addresses personal development, local action, and global awareness. Denver International P.E.A.C.E. began in 2006 in affiliation with Denver Public Schools, the Abrahamic Initiative, and in consultation with Facing History & Ourselves. Participants have traveled to Northern Ireland (2007), South Africa (2008) and Israel and Palestine (2009).
The 2010 program will begin in the winter with a residential weekend retreat where participants meet for the first time and start to learn communication and relationship-building skills. After the first retreat, participants meet regularly for additional skill-building workshops and seminars on identity, leadership, communication, community-building, and they learn about an international case study. In April, participants will travel to South Dakota for a second retreat with the participants of SCG’s Badlands International P.E.A.C.E. program. Leading up to the International Encounter Trip in June 2010, there will be a pre-trip orientation in Denver. All participants are expected to participate fully in local programming, including both retreats in Colorado and South Dakota; the International Encounter Trip is optional though encouraged.
