Cherry Creek Diversity Conference
Cherry Creek Diversity Conference
Seeking Common Ground has participated in the annual Cherry Creek Diversity Conference since 2009. Over 80 schools and organizations participate in this event. Since 2009, SCG has led a workshop entitled "Building Bridges for Peace: Teens Create Change" with over 50 high school students in attendance. The workshop begins with a "Perspective Squares" activity in which students begin to look at how different people have different perspectives-- and that doesn't mean one person is right or wrong!
After watching the Architects of Peace video, students engage in micro labs where they are all given equal time and space to share their thoughts on various topics including identity, conflict, and peace. The students learn that peaceful communication can be challenging, but is necessary and effective in creating change and building bridges with those who have different perspectives and come from various life experiences.
Every workshop ends with three BBfP participants and one LIT sharing their experiences of going through the BBfP program and what they are currently doing to be active leaders in their communities. The students are able to ask the participants and LIT questions and are provided information on getting involved in both BBfP and Denver P.E.A.C.E.
