Leaders-In-Training Facilitate Home Group Meeting
The meeting was held on October 25 in Jafa, near Tel Aviv. The group met at a time that was very close to the breaking of the fast for the Muslim girls so everyone brought food and drinks and broke the fast together.
After the meal Dana and Hila , Leaders-In-Training from this summer’s program, led a workshop about identity. They asked the group to create their own Identification cards. Each participant was to include an powerful event or moment in their life on the ID card. The girls then traded IDs with someone else in the group. Each individual told the story of the traded ID, as if it was her story. Some of the “stories” that came out of the exchange dealt with divorce, discrimination and death of relatives as a result of the occupation. One of the most poignant moments came when one of the participants shared that she was 12 when her brother went to the army. It was a traumatic day for her as she recalled, “in this day I have grown up like no 12-year-old should.” The exercise proved to be very interesting for all of the participants. At the end of the presentation the group discussed how it felt to hear other people’s stories and to listen to their own stories as told by someone else.
The group continues to explore more in depth the issues raised during the Building Bridges for Peace program this summer. The next meeting is set for November in Jerusalem.
