Middle East Home Group kicks off follow-up program
In December, the Middle East group reconvened for their first weekend retreat in Jerusalem. Participants picked up where they had left off from the summer and continued learning about each other and their different perspectives. They took part in a variety of workshops, through which they were able to discuss their progress and how they can be more active within their communities. The group also took a guided tour of the major religious places in the city, including the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock, and the Holy Sepulcher.
The Middle East participants are also involved with two ongoing follow-up projects: a book of reflections and a photography exhibit. Dana, a past BBfP Leader in Training (LIT), is coordinating a book project with past and present BBfP participants. Every few months, Dana sends a statement to participants and asks them to respond by writing about their reactions, feelings, and thoughts. The goal of this project is to put together a book of the participants’ reflections. The second project is a photography exhibit, led by Naomi, a current LIT, and Zowee, an Israeli participant. Participants have been asked to take photos that correspond to a particular theme, such as food, light and shadow, myself, and my street. At the end of the project in May, an exhibition of the participants’ work will be held in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
