Middle East Home Group meets again for last retreat
In April, the Middle East participants and Leaders in Training (LITs) came together for their final retreat. The group spent the weekend in the Negev, in the south of Israel, and took part in activities that explored the region and the local Bedouin community.
They visited a recognized Bedouin village called Laqia and met with the people who work and live there. They spent time with the Ajeek, an organization that works to empower members of the Bedouin community. The group then visited the women’s organization of Laqia. There, they were introduced to one of the founders of the organization Hasna, who shared with the group the history of the organization and the kind of work that they do.
Participants and LITs visited the home of a Bedouin family. At Be'rataim (the two wells), the group enjoyed a camel ride while learning about the history of the area. Participants and LITs then traveled to Kibbutz Kramim, where they spent their evening.
The next day, the group visited a hill that overlooks three Bedouin villages, and learned about the history of the Bedouin and the differences between a recognized and an unrecognized village.
These activities enabled the participants and LITs to experience first-hand life in a Bedouin village while reconnecting with each other again.
